On March 26th, Bungie revealed the 12 returning weapons that will be a part of the free update to Destiny 2, Into the Light. These weapons are mix of new and old weapons that the developers felt were staples of Destiny 2. All 12 weapons will have a limited time variant that players can obtain, but all weapons will continue to be available after The Final Shape launches.
For all 12 weapons, a new origin trait will be included: Indominability. This perk provides grenade energy on kill while using a light subclass, and melee energy on kill while using a dark subclass. We anticipate these weapons to become top-tier choices for all loadouts.
Without further delay, here are the 12 returning weapons.
The Recluse
The Recluse is a void submachine gun that was one of the best guns Destiny 2 ever had in the game. The original Recluse was sunset due to the insane power that it held. The version being introduced with Into the Light will be more balanced, but we still anticipate it to be the strongest submachine gun in the game.
Notable perks: Master of Arms, Feeding Frenzy, Dynamic Sway Reduction
The Mountaintop
The Mountaintop is a grenade launcher that had the unique perk of micro-missile. This made it extremely strong in PVE and PVP. It unloaded massive damage with great accuracy. The new version will maintain its PVE strength, but will be balanced in PVP. We anticipate this to return to the top once released.
Notable perks: Auto-loading Holster, Ambitious Assassin, Vorpal Weapon
Hammerhead
Hammerhead is an excellent machine gun that was released during the Black Armory update in Destiny 2. The new version is going to be a top machine gun due to the perk combinations that will be available.
Notable perks: Rampage, Killing Tally, Desperate Measures
Midnight Coup
Midnight coup is my personal favorite when it comes to hand cannons. The design and feel of this weapon is extremely satisfying. This weapon was a drop from the Leviathan Raid from year 1 of Destiny 2. We anticipate this to make a triumphant return in Into the Light.
Notable perks: Outlaw, Explosive Payload, Kinetic Tremors
Luna’s Howl
Luna’s Howl was an extremely dominant hand cannon in Destiny 2. The time to kill on this weapon was staggeringly quick. With the update version coming into the game, there has been tuning done so that it does not dominant as much as it used to. There will be more effort involved in replicating its potency.
Notable perks: Slideshot, Magnificent Howl
Blast Furnace
Another Black Armory weapon makes the return during Into the Light. This weapon will have some serious perks when it is launch in Into the Light. If you love pulse rifles, you will want to make sure you get your hands on this.
Notable perks: Kinetic Tremors, Firefly, Kill Clip, Rampage
Elsie’s Rifle
This pulse rifle is returning with a new name, Elsie’s Rifle. In Destiny 1, this was received as a reward, but with the name, The Stranger’s Rifle. This pulse will have some top-tier perks available.
Notable perks: Zen Moment, Headseeker, Kill Clip
Forbearance
Forbearance is the second of the two raid weapons currently obtainable in Destiny 2 that appear on the list of 12. Bungie’s reasoning for this is to provide all players the ability to obtain some of the best raid weapons in the current sand box during Into the Light. This will provide power to all players that may not be able to put a raid team together. This weapon is at the top of my own list to obtain during Into the Light.
Notable perks: Ambitious Assassin, Disruption Break, Chain Reaction
Succession
Succession is the second of the two raid weapons currently obtainable in Destiny 2 that appear on the list of 12. Bungie’s reasoning for this is to provide all players the ability to obtain some of the best raid weapons in the current sand box during Into the Light. This will provide power to all players that may not be able to put a raid team together.
Notable perks: Reconstruction, Vorpal Weapon, Box Breathing
Falling Guillotine
Falling Guillotine was the first legendary sword to have a vortex frame. This frame is a callback to the exotic Dark Drinker sword from Destiny 1. If you played Wrath of the Machine, the Dark Drinker was the way to melt the final boss.
Notable perks: Repulsor Brace, Relentless Strikes, Whirlwind Blade, Eager Edge
Edge Transit
This is a meme, but the reworked Edge Transit will be a monster with the potential perk combinations that can roll. The release of Edge Transit will be following the buff Heavy Grenade Launchers received in 7.3.5. This will appear any many player’s loadouts.
Notable perks: Cascade Point, Envious Assassin, Bait and Switch
Hung Jury SR4 (no image available)
The Hung Jury SR4 is a scout rifle that has been reintroduced into the sandbox during the Season of the Splicer. This is our least anticipated return due to it already having a reissued version in Destiny 2.
Notable perks: Kinetic Tremors, Explosive Payload, Firefly
